Nigeria’s Super Falcons were held to a goalless draw by Algeria in their final Group B game at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations on Sunday, Afrosport reports.
The nine-time African champions came into this game with their ticket to the quarter-finals already secured and head coach Justine Madugu made sizeable changes to the starting XI.

Only goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie, captain Rasheedat Ajibade and defender Tosin Demehin kept their starting spots. Eight players: Christy Ucheibe, Jennifer Echegini, Ifeoma Onumonu, Francisca Ordega, Shukurat Oladipupo, Sikiratu Isah, Miracle Usani and super-sub Chiwendu Ihezuo all earned their first starts.
Chances were limited for the Super Falcons, who finished the group stage without conceding a goal. The Algerian defence proved too difficult to break down with Onumonu and Ordega coming close for the Falcons.
Nigeria and Algeria shared the spoils and they both finished with an unbeaten record in the group. Madugu’s side, however, sit atop the standings with seven points, two more than the Green Ladies.
The Super Falcons will play Zambia’s Copper Queens, bronze medallists from the last edition, in the quarter-finals at the Stade Larbi Zaouli in Casablanca on Friday, 18 July.

The Green Ladies, meanwhile, will face the second-placed team in Group C in the last eight.
However, in the other Group A game, Botswana came from behind to seal a 2-1 win over Tunisia’s Carthage Eagles.
Meanwhile, the Mares will have to wait to know their qualification fate as one of the best third-placed teams in the competition, while Tunisia are eliminated after finishing bottom of the group.
