Morocco defeated Ghana 4-2 on penalties in Tuesday’s semi-final after a 1-1 draw in extra time to reach back-to-back finals as hosts of the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, Afrosport reports.
The Atlas Lionesses needed penalties to get past Mali in the quarter-finals while the Black Queens equally needed spot kicks to knock out Algeria in the previous round.
The West African giants were the stronger side in the opening half against the Moroccan ladies with more shots at goal which eventually paid off in the 26th minute when Stella Nyamekye scored from close range after a sublime delivery into the box.
Morocco were the better side in the second half and got the equaliser in the 55th minute through Sakina Ouzraoui Diki.
Very little separated both teams for the rest of the game including an additional 30 minutes, leaving spot kicks to be the decider.
Jorge Vilda’s side had no trouble converting any off their penalties while for the Ghanaians, Evelyn Badu and Comfort Yeboah missed.
