US Open: Tunisia’s Jabeur reveals battle with sickness after second round progress

Ons Jabeur has revealed she has been battling with sickness at the ongoing US Open after securing her progress to the third round with a 7-6 (9-7), 4-6, 6-3 second-round victory over Linda Noskova in the early hours of Friday morning.

The 29-year-old Tunisian struggled against her Czech opponent with coughing. She also had to battle with breathing difficulties in her first-round tie against Camila Osorio and stated that she has been on medications while pushing herself despite the discomfort.

“Yeah, I’ve been sick since Thursday. I’m taking a lot of medicine. I’m doing like everything I can with my team trying to recover,” the fifth seed said.

“Honestly, they have amazing doctors here, so they’ve been helping me. Every day I’m there. Basically, took every medication they have. Yeah, I mean, we try to manage what my health is right now. I’m glad it was two matches, two tests for me.

“I was trying to push myself to see what I can do, getting out of the comfort zone kind of. Yeah, hopefully will continue in a better shape and feel better for the next match.”

Jabeur will get to face another Czech player in Marie Bouzkova in the third round on Saturday.
