European football body UEFA on Wednesday handed out sanctions to Roma, Eintracht Frankfurt, and Twente for various misconducts during the Europa League last week, Afrosport reports.
Roma have been charged with crowd disturbances and other fan incidents during their 2-0 win against Frankfurt in the final round of league phase matches in the Europa League.
Clashes erupted at halftime with the game suspended for a bit due to the use of pyrotechnics in the stands. Security operatives, however, intervened and managed to restore order, allowing the match to continue.
The Italian club has been ordered by UEFA to close two sections in the northern part of their infamous Stadio Olimpico ahead of their home fixture against Porto on 20 February in the return leg in the Europa League knockout play-offs.
Roma will also pay a fine of 30,000 euros as imposed by UEFA’s disciplinary judges, while their German opponent, who have already booked automatic qualification to the last 16, were also fined 25,000 euros for fan disturbance.
Frankfurt also got a one-game provisional ban as a result of selling tickets for an away game during a two-year probationary period.
Meanwhile, UEFA also fined Twente 35,000 euros in a separate case, ordering the Dutch club to close one end of their stadium during their play-off game against Bodo/Glimt on 13 February.
