UCL: Abdallah Sima goal hands Brest historic maiden European win

UCL: Nigerian-born Ilenikhena makes history to hand Monaco massive win over Barcelona

Abdallah Sima scored the winner as Brest recorded a 2-1 win over Sturm Graz for their first-ever victory in their maiden UEFA Champions match on Thursday, Afrosport reports.

The Brittany outfit made it to Europe’s premier club competition after finishing third in the French Ligue 1 last season, and got ahead against their Austrian opponents when Hugo Magnetti found the back of the net in the 23rd minute.

Sturm Graz however found their way back in added time of the first half when Switzerland midfielder Edimilson Fernandes put the ball into his own net.

Brest were however not going to be denied that historic victory when Senegal’s Sima popped up with the winner in the 56th minute after latching on to a loose ball in the penalty area before beating the goalkeeper and placing his effort into the bottom right corner of the net.

Eric Roy’s side will now turn their attention to Ligue 1 fixtures against Toulouse and Auxerre before taking on RB Salzburg in their next Champions League match.
