The Flamingos have been knocked out of the 2024 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup on Saturday as they lost 2-0 to the United States in the quarter-finals, Afrosport reports.
Following a dramatic win against the host nation Dominican Republic in their final group game, the Nigerian ladies were set to face their toughest opponent yet.
They fought hard but they went behind in the 43rd minute of the first half as Kennedy Fuller made no mistake from the penalty spot to give the Americans the lead.
The Flamingos have been a very attacking side in the competition but could not break down the defense of US as their hopes were dashed in the 74th minute when midfielder Kimmy Ascanio scored the second goal for the US.

The journey of our sisters, the Flamingos, in the Dominican Republic may have ended, but we trust they will gain valuable lessons and return stronger for the tasks ahead in Morocco next year.#SoarFlamingos #NGAUSA pic.twitter.com/aoupTTYHgx

The result means that there is no African representative left in the Dominican Republic after Zambia and debutants Kenya suffered group stage exits.
