U-20 AFCON: Ivory Coast withdraws from hosting duties

The 2025 Under-20 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) is now under doubt as Ivory Coast on Wednesday pulled out as hosts, Afrosport reports.

Yacine Idriss Diallo, the president of the Ivorian Football Federation (FIF), stated in a press release that the country’s government notified the body of Ivory Coast’s withdrawal as host of the competition.

An official reason has yet to be given for the country’s sudden withdrawal, with the Confederation of African Football (CAF) now left to scramble with the tournament scheduled to commence in a month’s time.

Ivory Coast is drawn in Group A of the tournament alongside Central African Republic, DR Congo, Ghana, and Tanzania.

Meanwhile, Nigeria’s Flying Eagles are in Group B, where they will have to navigate through Egypt, Morocco, and South Africa.
