Tottenham forward Dominic Solanke has undergone minor surgery to resolve an ongoing ankle problem, Afrosport reports..
The 28-year-old, who is expected to be out for some weeks, last featured for Spurs in a 2-0 win at Manchester City on 23 August. He missed training again on Monday ahead of their Champions League clash away to Norwegian side Bodo/Glimt on Tuesday.
“Dom has got that ankle issue that’s been bothering him for a little while, so now we’ve decided to make a minor surgery,” said Tottenham manager Thomas Frank at his pre-match conference.
“It’s a small procedure, so that will mean he is not ready [for Bodo/Glimt] and of course Leeds [on Saturday] as well. We’ll have more news about a time frame after the international break, but I don’t expect it to be long.”
The 28-year-old England striker missed the majority of pre-season with an ankle issue, but it appeared to be fixed by the start of August as he played against Paris St-Germain, Burnley and Manchester City.
Solanke had already missed most of pre-season with the same injury but appeared to have shaken it off after featuring against Paris Saint-Germain in the UEFA Super Cup followed bu Premier League clashes against Burnley and Manchester City in August.
When asked whether surgery could have been done earlier, Frank replied: “No, I think you can look at it two ways. That is the easy answer but it is not that easy because if we knew we could have done the surgery a month ago, we probably would have done it.
“For me I am always ‘it is what it is’. We deal with it now and no doubt the way we dealt with it was because we thought that was the right thing. In general, no one wants surgery.”
Solanke will sit out Spur’s next two fixtures, making him absent from eight games already this season. The north London club have started well under Frank, sitting fourth in the Premier League after winning three of their opening six league matches.
Spurs are also through to the League Cup fourth round, where they will face holders Newcastle United and kicked off their Champions League return with a 1-0 win over Villarreal
