Zaidu Sanusi scores first goal in almost two years in FC Porto win

Nigerian left-back Zaidu Sansusi scored his first goal for FC Porto in almost two years in a 4-0 Liga Portugal win away at Arouca on Monday night with 10 men, Afrosport reports.

The 28-year-old has been blighted by multiple injury problems since the 2022-23 season that has seen him miss out on competitive action for a combined 362 days.

Zaidu started from the bench against Arouca and Porto were ahead through Spanish forward of Nigerian heritage Samu Aghehowa in the 12th minute before Brazilian midfielder Pepe had a goal disallowed nine minutes later by VAR for offside.

Porto were reduced to 10 men three minutes into the second half after Martim Fernandes was sent off for two bookable offences.

It however did not deter the away side as Deniz Gul and Francisco Moura added the second and third goals before Zaidu replaced Moura in the 69th minute and scored the fourth goal in the 85th minute with a composed finish off an Alberto Costa assist.

It was the 22-time capped Super Eagles player’s first goal for Porto since a 2-1 league win at Vitoria Guimaraes on November 11, 2023.


Monday’s victory moved Francesco Farioli’s side to the top of the table, three points clear of rivals Sporting Lisbon and four ahead of Benfica.
