Former world number one Novak Djokovic will kick off his 2025 campaign at the Brisbane International as the Serbian chases a record 25th Grand Slam title at the Australian Open, Afrosport reports.
Djokovic, who has won the most Australian Open titles (10), is currently tied with Australian Margaret Court (24) for the most Grand Slam singles titles in both the men’s and women’s categories.
The 37-year-old Serb failed to win any Grand Slams in 2024, with his only title in the year being a gold medal from the Paris Olympics.
Djokovic, ranked seventh in the world, will compete in Brisbane with the tournament set to run from 29 December to 5 January. He is expected to use the tournament as warm-up for the Australian Open, which begins on 12 January 2025.
“I’m excited to be kicking off my Australian swing at the Brisbane International and to compete again at Pat Rafter Arena,” said Djokovic.
“I am looking forward to experiencing the incredible support from the Australian fans and making this tournament one to remember.”
Djokovic, who appointed former tennis player and rival, Andy Murray, as his coach for the Australian Open last month, will compete against the likes of Nick Kyrgios, defending champion Grigor Dimitrov, Holger Rune, Frances Tiafoe, Matteo Berrettini, Sebastian Korda, Gael Monfils, plus local hopes Alexei Popyrin and Jordan Thompson.
Victory in Brisbane will mark Djokovic’s 100th career title, positioning him as only the third man in the Open era to reach the landmark following Jimmy Connors (109) and Roger Federer (103).
