Teenage sensation Matthew Kuti leads Nigeria to regional Table Tennis tournament

13-year-old Matthew Kuti will lead Nigeria’s title defence at the 2024 ITTF West Africa Regional Championships in Lome, Togo between April 25 and 27.

It will be Kuti’s debut appearance at the tournament which serves as the qualifiers for the 2024 African Championships will take place in Ethiopia in October.

The teenage sensation will compete against 31 other male players including former champion Oba Oba Kizito of Cote D’Ivoire and homeboy Fanny Kokou contesting for the Men Singles title.

He will be joined by compatriots Muiz Adegoke, Basit Abdulfatai, Samuel Boboye and Matthew Fabunmi who are also part of the Nigerian contingent.

The tournament which has four categories, Men and Women singles, and the doubles will also have 29 women jostling for top prizes in the Togolese capital.

The Nigerian Women team will hope to conquer the West African region with silver medalist at the 13th African Games in Ghana, Hope Udoaka leading the team that also has Ajoke Ojomu, and three junior stars – Kabirat Ayoola, Aisha Rabiu and Ize Sezue.

Benin Republic, Burkina Faso, Cote D’Ivoire, Ghana, Guinea, Nigeria, Senegal and hosts Togo have put representatives forward for the event.
