Nigeria’s Super Eagles moved up one position in the latest men’s ranking released by world football governing body FIFA on Thursday, Afrosport reports.

The three-time African champions moved from 44th to 43rd position following March’s round of matches in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers but dropped into sixth in Africa.

The Super Eagles were in action twice in the World Cup qualifiers against Rwanda and Zimbabwe, respectively.

Eric Chelle’s side defeated Rwanda’s Amavubi 2-0 at the Amahoro Stadium in Kigali before playing out a disappointing 1-1 draw against the Warriors of Zimbabwe in Uyo.

Meanwhile, Morocco retained top spot in Africa but moved up two places to 12th in the world rankings. Senegal dropped two places to 19th; Egypt (32nd, up 1), Algeria (36th, up 1), and Côte d’Ivoire (41st, up 5) make up the top five in Africa.

Nigeria, Tunisia (49th, up 3), Cameroon (50th, down 1), Mali (53rd, down 2), and South Africa (56th, up 1) are the remaining teams in the continent’s top 10.

On the global stage, Argentina maintained their lead at the top of the ranking after booking their place at the 2026 World Cup to be co-hosted by the USA, Canada and Mexico.

Spain moved a spot into second; France dropped into third, while England and Brazil kept their positions in the top five.

The Netherlands, meanwhile, leapfrogged Portugal into sixth, with Belgium, Italy and Germany completing the top 10.
