Super Eagles interim boss Eguavoen debunks ‘stepping down’ rumours

Super Eagles interim coach Augustine Eguavoen has said he is still in charge of the Nigerian national team, Afrosport reports.

The 59-year-old debunked the rumours making the rounds about him stepping down after Tuesday’s goalless draw against Rwanda in Kigali, labelled the reports as fake news.

While speaking immediately after their arrival at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Airport Abuja, Eguavoen said: “It’s just unfortunate that people just triggered something that is not correct and the situation we are in now, we don’t need negative stories.

” I only talked about, I am going to sit down with the hierarchy of the Federation after these two games and how I will be prosecuting the next games. But when I saw that story, I was kind of worried, concerned.

“Whatever people are reading out there is not correct, I am still very much in charge and still the Technical Director of Nigeria Football Federation saddled with the responsibility of being in charge of the Super Eagles at this moment and that’s where we are.”

In their opening two games in the qualifiers for AFCON 2025, the former Nigeria international led the Super Eagles to one win and one draw as they sit atop Group D with four points.
