Spain and Argentina to play Finalissima in Qatar

Euro 2024 champions Spain and current Copa America holders Argentina will clash in the Finalissima on March 27 in Qatar, Afrosport reports.

The competition, which was revived in 2022, saw the Argentines defeat Italy 3–0 in the previous edition at the Emirates Stadium, with goals scored by Lautaro Martinez, Angel Di Maria, and Paulo Dybala.

The Albiceleste return after narrowly overcoming Colombia 1–0 in the most recent Copa America tournament, while Spain will come with high spirits following their 2–1 win against England in the Euro 2024 final held in Berlin.

The match will take place at the Lusail Stadium which hosted the 2022 FIFA World Cup between Argentina and France, and will serve as the last international window before preparations for the 2026 World Cup in North America commences.

The Argentine FA’s approval for the Finalissima was delayed due to internal matters, and coach Lionel Scaloni had previously expressed doubts about the match occurring.

The anticipated generational face-off between Lionel Messi and Spain’s emerging talent Lamine Yamal will not happen, as Messi has opted out due to preseason commitments with Major League Soccer outfit Inter Miami and uncertainty regarding his participation at the World Cup.
