South Africa’s Strydom wins maiden title on DP World Tour

South African golfer Ockie Strydom emerged victorious at the Alfred Dunhill Championship at the Leopard Creek Country Club in South Africa.

The 37-year-old playing on home soil, carded a final-round 69 to claim a two-shot win to secure his maiden DP World Tour title.

Strydom began the final round tied for the lead on 15 under par with Scotland’s Scott Jamieson but suffered a setback on the front nine with a double-bogey. He later found the much-needed form and consistency, picking up shots at the 10th, 11th, 13th and 14th to open up a three-shot lead.

The South African finished the tournament in first place on 18 under par while Spain’s Adrian Otaegui finished in second on 16 under, carding four birdies and no bogeys in his final-round 68.

Strydom has now earned his card to play on the DP World Cup in the 2023 season, with his only previous title coming in 2019 at the Origins of Golf tournament on South Africa’s Sunshine Tour.
