Venezia came from two goals down to defeat 10-man Udinese 3-2 at the Pier Luigi Penzo Stadium on Wednesday to register their second win of the season, Afrosport reports.
After a bright start to the match, Sandi Lovrić gave Udinese the lead in the 19th minute off a sublime pass from Iker Bravo. The visitors then doubled their lead six minutes later through Bravo, whose strike from outside the box beat Venezia goalkeeper Filip Stankovic.
The hosts, however, were handed a lifeline as they were awarded a penalty after Udinese’s Lautaro Gianetti tripped Joel Pohjanpalo in the box. Pohjanpalo picked himself up and dispatched the penalty to half the deficit.
The game took another twist in the 53rd minute as the Udinese were reduced to 10 men after Isaak Toure received his marching orders for pulling back a Venezia player clear on goal. It took the hosts three minutes to make their numerical advantage count as they leveled the tie through Hans Nicolussi Caviglia’s brilliantly struck free kick.
It got worse for Udinese in the 86th minute as Jordan Zemura handled the ball in the penalty box, and despite his protests, the penalty was awarded to the home side after a VAR review. Pohjanpalo stepped up again and coolly converted the penalty, leaving goalkeeper Maduka Okoye rooted to the spot.
