Saudi Super Cup: Mane scores and sees red in Al-Nassr semi-final win over Al-Ittihad

Sadio Mane got his name on the scoresheet but was also sent off as Al-Nassr defeated rivals Al-Ittihad 2-1 in the Saudi Super Cup in Hong Kong on Tuesday, Afrosport reports.

The 33-year-old Senegal superstar broke the deadlock after 10 minutes with a volley from Marcelo Brozovic’s cross.

The former Liverpool player was however given his marching orders in the 25th minute for a rough challenge on Al-Ittihad goalkeeper Hamed Al-Shanqity.

Mane’s sending off made him the third Al-Nassr player to see red in as many Saudi Super Cup editions after Portuguese maestro Cristiano Ronaldo in 2023 and Brozovic in 2024.

Before the red card, former Tottenham Hotspur winger Steven Bergwijn equalised for Al Ittihad in the 16th minute but despite their numerical disadvantage, Al Nassr regained the lead in the 61st minute as new signing Joao Felix latched onto a through ball from Ronaldo and put the ball past Al-Shanqity.

The former Chelsea man thought he had made it a brace, but his effort was ruled out by VAR for a foul in the build-up.

Al-Nassr progress into the final and will face the winner of Wednesday’s second semi-final between Al Qadsiah and Al Ahli.
