Pape Matar Sarr revealed he had planned discussions with Xavi Simons towards the goal the Senegalese midfielder scored in Tottenham Hotspur’s 3-0 Premier League win at 10-man West Ham United on Saturday, Afrosport reports.
The 23-year-old rose highest to head in a corner from new singing Simons in the 47th minute before Lucas Bergvall and Micky van de Ven added their names on the scoresheet.
It was the first assist for Simons since his move from RB Leipzig while it was Sarr’s first goal of the season.
Reflecting on the goal, the former Olympique Marseille midfielder said: “I told Xavi yesterday if you put the ball in the box I will score and that’s what happened.
“After the first half, we spoke together, he gives me the ball and I was in a good position and timing and when the ball arrived, I just put my head and it’s a nice goal.”

Speaking about Simon’s presence in the team, Sarr added: “It’s nice to have Xavi in the team because he’s a great player and you can see he brings a lot of good things to the team. We are here together and we will do our best.
“He came here for the team to do well and I wish him a good season in the team as well.”
Sarr, who scored twice on international duty for Senegal in the 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers, will shift his attention to Tottenham’s UEFA Champions League league phase game at home to Villarreal on Tuesday.
