Bukayo Saka is set to begin discussions with Arsenal over a fresh contract even as two years remain on his existing deal, Afrosport reports.
The 23-year-old of Nigerian heritage has been the creative force in Mikel Arteta’s team this season with nine goals and 13 assists in 24 competitive appearances.
Saka has however been out of action since December with a hamstring injury. He had to undergo surgery to correct the problem and Arteta is hopeful he can return after the international break.
The Arsenal academy graduate signed a five-year contract in the summer of 2022 worth a reported £10 million per year and according to BBC Sport, the Gunners want to avoid any uncertainty on his future and have made tying him down to a longer contract a top priority.
Saka was of interest to some of Europe’s biggest team before he signed his current deal, notably Manchester City, and they will want to capitalise if these fresh talks do not go down well.
Aside from Saka, defensive lynchpins William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes also have deals that will run out in 2027.
The likes of Thomas Partey and Jorginho will be free agents at the end of the season and are most likely to leave the Emirates Stadium while Leandro Trossard has a year left on his contract.
