Rashford: How Man United forward set new record with Premier League GOTM award

Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford has claimed the Premier League Goal of the Month award for March with his thunderbolt-like strike in the Manchester derby at the Etihad Stadium.

The 26-year-old put the Red Devils ahead against Manchester City with his sixth goal in the derby, which United eventually lost 3-1 following a second-half resurgence from the home side.

Rashford struck a fierce shot, which rattled the bar into the top corner, beating Brazilian shot-stopper Ederson from about 25 yards out after he was teed up by club captain Bruno Fernandes in the eighth minute.

The Carrington Academy graduate, who claimed the league’s monthly award for the first time in his career, helped United set a new Premier League record as they became the first team to have four different players claim the honour in the same season.

The England international is the eighth different player from United to win the award, and it marks the 10th time a Red Devils player has come out victorious.

Bruno Fernandes claimed United’s first GOTM award this season with his volley at Turf Moor against Burnley back in September 2023. Number two came for Erik Ten Hag’s men in November, thanks to Alejandro Garnacho’s overhead kick at Everton.

Teenage phenom Kobbie Mainoo won the team’s third honor in February with his sublime stoppage time finish against Wolverhampton Wanderers at Molineux after a mazy run.

Rashford, who ensured a United player retains the award, will hope to be in action when they travel to the Vitality Stadium to take on Bournemouth this Saturday.
