Premier League: Salah reaches 150 goal-mark as Liverpool beat 10-man Crystal Palace

Egyptian forward Mohamed Salah reached a goalscoring milestone for Liverpool in their 2-1 comeback win against ten-man Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park on Saturday.

The 31-year-old netted his 150th goal in the Premier League and the 200th of his Liverpool career since joining the side in the summer of the 2017 season.

Salah’s milestone in South London sees him become the joint-tenth highest goalscorer in the Premier League, levelled with former Liverpool and England striker Michael Owen.

Jurgen Klopp’s side were not at their best in the early kickoff fixture, with Jefferson Lemar almost putting the home side ahead in the 28th minute. The Colombian midfielder’s attempt from inside the box was denied by a brilliant save from Alisson Becker in goal for Liverpool.

A minute later, Palace were awarded a penalty after Virgil Van Dijk brought down French forward Odsonne Edouard. However, after a VAR review, referee Andy Madley overturned his initial call as Will Hughes was adjudged to have fouled Wataru Endo in the buildup to the goal.

Palace were eventually awarded a penalty after another VAR review eleven minutes into the second half after Jean-Philippe Mateta was fouled by Liverpool’s Jarell Quansah. Mateta tucked the penalty away, sending Alisson the wrong way to put the home side ahead.

Roy Hodgson’s side were reduced to ten-men after Jordan Ayew was shown a second yellow card in the 75th minute and Liverpool made them pay shortly after through Salah. The Reds’ No. 11 was aided by a double deflection to beat Sam Johnstone in goal for the Eagles.

Liverpool completed their comeback in the first minute of stoppage time through Harvey Elliot, who grabbed his second-ever Premier League goal. After being set up by Salah, the 20-year-old midfielder beat Johnstone from outside the box with a peach of a strike into the bottom corner.

The win was Liverpool’s eleventh in the league this season and it takes them to the top of the standings temporarily with 37points, one point ahead of Arsenal, who play Aston Villa later in the day.
