Premier League: Mbeumo, Wissa combine to lead Brentford over Southampton

Cameroonian forward Bryan Mbeumo and DR Congo international Yoane Wissa both found the back of the net in Brentford’s 3-1 win over Southampton at the Gtech Community Stadium on Saturday.

Mbeumo scored a brace and Wissa added another to help the Bees register their second win in the Premier League this season as English forward Ivan Toney watched on a day after securing a move to Saudi club Al Ahli.

Mbeumo, 25, took his league tally to three goals, while Wissa scored his second Premier League goal of the new campaign.

After some mistakes from Southampton’s defence, Mbeumo broke the deadlock in the 43rd minute, scoring from a rebound after Kevin Schade’s effort hit the post. The Cameroon international got his second in the 65th minute, benefiting from another mistake from the Saints’ backline.

Wissa, 27, made it three for Thomas Frank’s men four minutes later, scrambling the ball over the line after a goal line melee.

The visitors eventually drew one back in the 94th with Japanese midfielder Yukinari Sugawara getting the consolation for Russell Martin’s side. The 24-year-old got the Saints’ first goal of the season.

Brentford made it two wins from as many home games as they secured their fourth consecutive win over Southampton, and ensured Aaron Ramsdale debut for the visitors ended badly.
