Premier League: Italian-Nigerian Koleosho reflects on Burnley’s first point of the season

Luca Koleosho believes Burnley will build on from earning their first Premier League point of the season which they achieved in Monday night’s 1-1 draw at Nottingham Forest.

The Clarets were without a win in their opening four games on their return to the top flight and went ahead in the 41st minute when South Africa’s Lyle Foster assisted Zeki Amdouni for the opening goal. The lead was however short-lived as Anglo-Ghanaian Hudson-Odoi leveled things up on the hour mark after being assisted by Nigeria’s Taiwo Awoniyi.

Burnley were reduced to 10 men in added time when Foster received a straight red card for needlessly elbowing an opponent. Nonetheless, Koleosho is keen to see more improvement in the team which will be key in accruing more vital points as the season progresses.

“As a team we wanted the three points obviously, we were able to go up 1-0, they scored a great goal and made it 1-1 but we were able to get a point and now I feel like the team we can build off this, get more momentum and hopefully get more points next game out,” the Italian-Nigerian told the club website.

“It’s always good to get, especially the first point of the season. I think that we can really build off this and just keep grinding as a team and just keep on getting more and more points, accumulate through the season and just finish off strong.”

He further added: “We were just listening to what the coach said, sticking to the plan, trusting one another, fighting for each other and we were able to do that, and we were able to play really well and go up 1-0.

“At half-time the manager said just keep playing our football. Try and enjoy it. Be aggressive in everything and just try and add on more points.

“We’ll just be looking at what things went well and to improve on that. What things didn’t go well and how to improve on that as well – and just as a collective, as a team just sticking to the plan and improve day by day. I know that we’re going to keep on improving and I know we’re going to play even better as time goes on.”

Manager Vincent Kompany after the game stated:

“We have to fight for every point in this league and I thought tonight we really did that.

“It was a pretty even match and depending on which side of the fence you are sat on, there’s a debate on which side deserved the three points.

“Our team has made so much progress already and there’s so much more to come from these players and you could see that tonight.

“The work is on the training ground and the work will continue, you can see it every day. Hopefully by Saturday we have made more improvements once again.”

Burnley’s next assignment is a home tie at Turf Moor against struggling Manchester United on Saturday.
