Premier League: Fulham stun Chelsea as Man City, Man United drop points again

Fulham were the biggest winners of Wednesday night action in the Premier League as they defeated 10-man Chelsea 2-1 at Craven Cottage, Afrosport reports.

The Blues were reduced to 10 man after 22 minutes following Marc Cucurella receiving a straight red card for a pull on Harry Wilson in the build up to a goalscoring opportunity.

Wilson thought he had put Fulham ahead in added time of the first half but his effort was ruled out by VAR for offside. The Cottagers were however not going denied in the 55th minute when Mexico forward Raul Jimenez headed in Sander Berge’s cross.

Chelsea were still very much in the game despite their numerical disadvantage and leveled up in the 72nd minute through Liam Delap but were behind nine minutes later as Wilson scored this time with the help of a deflection off Chelsea captain Reece James.

The result saw Chelsea fail to close in on the top four and were leapfrogged by Brentford who defeated Sunderland 3-0 and Newcastle United who defeated Leeds United 4-3 in an entertaining game at St. James’ Park.

Manchester United also moved ahead of the Blues by just a point after drawing 2-2 with Burnley in Darren Fletcher’s first game as caretaker manager following the dismissal of Ruben Amorim.

Manchester City also failed to close the gap on leaders Arsenal after a 1-1 draw at home with Brighton & Hove Albion. Aston Villa also failed to do the same with their goalless draw against Crystal Palace.

Everton managed to hold on to a 1-1 draw with Wolverhampton Wanderers despite playing with nine men in the closing seven minutes following the sending off of goalscorer Michael Keane and Jack Grealish.

Meanwhile, Bournemouth overcame Tottenham Hotspur with an emphatic 3-2 win at the Vitality Stadium, Ghana’s Antoine Semenyo scoring a 95th minute winner before his imminent transfer to Manchester City.
