Premier League: Egyptian forward Salah overtakes Gerrard on Liverpool scoring chart

Egypt international Mohamed Salah has overtaken Liverpool legend and former captain Steven Gerrard on the club’s scoring chart with his first-half strike against Bournemouth at Anfield on Saturday.

The 31-year-old, who joined the Merseyside outfit in 2017, scored his 187th goal for the club to move one ahead of Gerrard, who ended his Liverpool career with 186 goals.

Salah rebounded into an empty net from an initial penalty miss after Hungarian midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai was brought down in the box by English midfielder Joe Rothwell in the 36th minute.

The former Chelsea and Roma man now stands alone in fifth place in the ranking, but he still has a long way to go to break into the fourth spot occupied by former Scottish international Billy Liddell on 228 goals.

The top three positions on the Reds’ list is completed by Gordon Hodgson (241), Roger Hunt (285), and Liverpool’s all-time goalscorer Ian Rush (346).
