Mohamed Salah has revealed he has harboured thoughts of becoming Liverpool’s Premier League all-time top scorer since he joined the club in the summer of 2017 from Italian outfit Roma.
The Egyptian forward reached that milestone on Sunday after netting a brace in the 7-0 demolition of fierce rivals Manchester United at Anfield, taking his Premier League tally for the Reds to 129 goals, surpassing Robbie Fowler’s tally of 128.

Salah, who scored 32 league goals in his maiden season at Anfield and surpassed Thierry Henry for the most top-flight goals in a season since the current format was introduced in 1992, described Sunday’s performance as “special”.
“It’s very special, I can’t lie. This record was in my mind since I came here. I think after my first season I was always chasing that record. To beat it against United with that result is unbelievable. I’m going home to celebrate with the family, have a camomile tea and sleep,” Salah said on the Liverpool website.
The 30-year-old also described defeating Man United by such a huge margin as special and hopes it will be a springboard for more positive results that have often been difficult for them to get this season.
“It’s very special to win the game like that with that result, but at the same time, I don’t want us to go to the next game with overconfidence. We just need to stay humble and play and win the game, because we are not in the position we wanted to be. But hopefully, that gives us a good push and makes us keep winning,” Salah stated.
On how the result impacts Liverpool’s top four hopes, Salah said: “Hopefully. I think now we are fifth in the table and three points behind Spurs; we have still one game in hand as well. We just need to enjoy the game and think when we play to enjoy the game, just to play our football. That’s what we showed in the last couple of weeks.”
Next on for Jurgen Klopp’s men is a trip to the Vitality Stadium to face relegation-threatened Bournemouth on Saturday, before hoping to reverse a 5-2 deficit when they take on Real Madrid in the second leg of the UEFA Champions League round of 16 next Wednesday.
