Team Nigeria captain Anuoluwapo Opeyori’s journey at the Paris 2024 Olympics came to an end on Wednesday following another defeat in his second game in the badminton men’s singles.
The number one ranked player in Africa was beaten 2-0 in straight sets by China’s Li Shi Feng, who is ranked 6th in the world.
Opeyori lost his opening Group N game to Switzerland’s Tobias Kuenzi on Tuesday, and the Nigerian hoped for a better outing against Shi Feng, whom he was looking to upset.
However, the encounter didn’t go as planned, with the Chinese star sealing an identical 21-17, 21-17 two sets win over Opeyori after 42 minutes of intense competition at the La Chapelle Arena Court 2.
The 27-year-old’s exit means Nigeria no longer has any representative in the badminton tournament as he is the country’s sole participant in the event.
