Nemour stunned world champion Qiu Qiyuan, as the Chinese superstar had to settle for silver having recorded a 15.600 score.
Meanwhile, Suni Lee of the United States grabbed her third medal at the Paris 2024 Olympics after finishing third at 14.800 to clinch bronze, taking her medal haul at these Games to two bronze and one gold medal.
Nemour made history in 2023 by becoming the first Algerian and African to win a medal at the World Gymnastics Championships after securing a silver medal in Antwerp, Belgium.
The teenage sensation’s victory in Paris helps her become the first Algerian to win a gold medal in the Olympics since the London 2012 Games, where Taoufik Makhloufi won the men’s 1500-metre race.
Nemour also became the first Algerian woman since Nouria Merah-Benida in the Sydney 2000 Games to win an Olympic gold in any sport, as well as Algeria’s sixth-ever Olympic champion.
