Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen has expressed his joy at being crowned as the 2022 foreign athlete of the year in Italy as a result of his incredible exploits with his club side Napoli.
The award, which was organized by the Foreign Press Association in Italy, was presented to the 24-year-old on Monday.
According to a statement released by the association, the Nigerian was given the prize as a testament of him being “fundamental to Napoli’s extraordinary success, thanks to his excellent play, great power, incredible speed and vocation for scoring goals.”

Osimhen, who was accompanied by Napoli’s owner Aurelio de Laurentiis, took to his official social media accounts to show his gratitude for being bestowed with the honour.

The foreign athlete award comes weeks after Napoli’s No. 9 won both the player and goal of the month awards for January in Serie A.
Osimhen has impressed all season for the Partenopei with 21 goals and four assists in 26 games, including 19 goals in Serie A, which has kept him as the leading marksman in the Italian top flight.
The former Wolfsburg forward is on hand to lead Napoli to their first league title in 33 years, as they currently have a 15-point lead over their closest rivals, Inter Milan.
