The 2023-24 European season is gradually reaching its climax and Nigeria stars have been in scintillating form for their respective European clubs.
Afrosport highlights the highest-scoring Nigeria players in the top five European leagues.
Victor Boniface – 20 goals
Boniface did not waste time to settle in at Leverkusen and he has found the back of the net in almost every Bundesliga match he has played this season.
The Super Eagles striker has a return of 13 goals in 22 matches in the German top-flight with five goals in seven UEFA Europa League games and two additional goals in the German Cup.
Cyriel Dessers – 21 goals
The 29-year-old is also having a memorable debut campaign in Scotland and his fine goalscoring return has put Rangers in contention for the Premiership crown.
Dessers has scored 15 goals in the Scottish top-flight this term, he has a goal each in the UEFA Europa League and UEFA Champions League qualifiers. He also scored three goals in the Scottish FA Cup and a goal in the Scottish League Cup.
The Belgium-born Nigeria international is also bidding to win the domestic treble with Rangers this campaign.
Victor Osimhen – 17 goals
Despite Napoli’s struggles to defend their Italian Serie A crown, Osimhen has managed to score 15 goals in 24 top-flight matches.
The reigning African Footballer of the Year missed a chunk number of games due to injuries and national duty at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
Napoli are in danger of missing out on European football next season but Osimhen still managed to score two Champions League goals in six appearances this campaign.
Paul Onuachu – 15 goals
Onuachu’s goals are coming right time to boost Trabzonspor’s chances of playing European football next season.
The lanky Super Eagles striker, who is loan from Southampton, has scored 14 goals in 20 Turkish Super Lig matches this season.
He also scored a goal in the Turkish Cup semi-final win against Fatih Karagmuruk to help Trabzonspor set up a final date against Besiktas on May 23.
Ademola Lookman – 15 goals
Lookman has established himself as one of the key players in Gian Gasperini’s Atalanta squad and his attacking involvement has helped the Serie A club advance into the UEFA Europa League final.
The skillful winger has contributed nine goals and six assists in 29 Serie A games this season, and two goals with an assist in the Europa League.
Lookman also contributed a goal that sent Atalanta into the Coppa Italia final where they will play Juventus on May 15.
Terem Moffi – 11 goals
Moffi’s goal contribution has helped OGC Nice mount a challenge for European football in the French Ligue 1 this season as they are currently fifth on the table.
The Super Eagles forward has 11 goals to his name with two assists in 28 appearances in the French top-flight this term.
Akor Adams – 8 goals
The 24-year-old was off to a flying start with Montpellier in the Ligue 1 but he has struggled to score just a goal since the start of 2024.
Adams has a tally of eight goals and an assist after 31 matches in his debut campaign in southern France.
Nathan Tella – 6 goals
Tella turned up for Bayer Leverkusen in the absence of his compatriot, Victor Boniface at some point this season.
The 24-year-old moved to Germany from Southampton in August 2023 and he has -contribute five Bundesliga goals and two assist for Xabi Alonso’s team so far. Tella also has a goal and an assist to his name in the UEFA Europa League.
Taiwo Awoniyi – 6 goals
Awoniyi endured an injury-ravaged season at Nottingham Forest with recurring groin setback.
Regardless, the 26-year-old managed to score six goals and provide three assists in 19 Premier League matches.
