Oshoala shines with Saudi League Player of the Month award

Super Falcons striker Asisat Oshoala has claimed the Saudi Women’s Premier League Player of the Month award for September after a flying start at Al-Hilal Women, Afrosport reports.

The 30-year-old joined the Saudi club on 2 September and wasted no time making an impact, scoring on her debut against Al Qadsiah before following up with a goal and an assist apiece in back-to-back games against Al Ahli and Neom SC.

Oshoala’s tally of three goals and two assists in just three matches has already marked her out as one of the league’s standout performers.

Her form has been key to Al-Hilal’s perfect start to the campaign. The Riyadh club have won all three of their matches, netting 10 goals – the third-highest in the division – and conceding five. They sit level on points with leaders Al-Nassr, who boast a superior goal difference.

Al-Hilal, meanwhile, scooped all the available awards for September, with Layla Ali named Goalkeeper of the Month and Jose Herrera picking up Coach of the Month.

Al-Hilal will aim to extend their winning run when they face Al-Ittihad at the Prince Faisal bin Fahad Stadium on Thursday, with the match providing a reunion for Oshoala and her compatriots, Ashleigh Plumptre and Francisca Ordega.
