Onuoha expects Salah, Van Dijk & Alexander-Arnold to sign Liverpool contract extensions

Former Manchester City defender Nedum Onuoha has stated that the expects Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold to extend their respective contracts with Liverpool, Afrosport reports.

The trio’s current contracts are all up at the end of the season and there is no indication that they are close to agreeing to new terms.

Despite the cloud of doubt that exists on whether the three men will commit their futures at Anfield, Onuoha is confident that at least two of them will put pen to paper before January when they would be eligible to sign pre-contracts with any other club interested in them under the Bosman ruling.

“I expect them to sign a new deal before January. That’s what I think and it would just be like business as usual,” said Onuoha told the Planet Premier League podcast. “And then whoever that third is, they’ll explain their reasons.

“The first thing about all three of them is they’ve been great servants for Liverpool and if they were to leave, which I’m sure most fans wouldn’t want from them, you know they’ll be carried out of the place and thanked for their service.

“So they’ve handled it very well, which doesn’t surprise me, but they’re also handling it so well that I believe that they are in negotiations.”

When Liverpool boss Arne Slot was asked about their futures, he said: “I’m very happy that these players are in my team at the moment.

“There’s a lot of games this season and in the upcoming weeks, let’s see what happens in the future.”

Liverpool are currently in second place in the Premier League standings, one point behind reigning champions Manchester City and will face Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday at the Molineux, a ground Van Dijk scored his first goal for the Reds back in 2018.
