Olympics Qualifiers: Oshoala, Ajibade make Super Falcons squad for Cameroon clash

Women’s World Cup: Super Falcons’ credible draw against Canada does not hide clear failings

Six-time African Women’s Footballer of the Year, Asisat Oshoala, Rasheedat Ajibade, Ashleigh Plumptre and goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie are included in Nigeria’s 21-woman squad for their Paris 2024 Olympics football qualifying game against Cameroon.

The Super Falcons need to neutralise the Indomitable Lionesses of Cameroon in the first leg of the third-round qualifier on February 23, for a chance to advance into the ultimate qualifying stage for the Paris Games.

The first leg will take place at the Stade de la Reunification in Douala while the return fixture is fixed for the MKO Abiola National Stadium in Abuja on Monday, February 26.

In October 2023, Nigeria defeated Ethiopia 5-1 on aggregate in the second round of the CAF Women’s Olympic Qualifying Tournament.

It is unknown if American coach Randy Waldrum will be in charge of the Super Falcons with reports indicating that he has reached an agreement with the Nigeria Football Federation to continue as the women’s national team head coach.
