NSF 2024: Team Ogun’s Kamal Obe powers into Round of 16 in Squash

Ogun State’s rising squash star, Kamal Obe, has advanced to the Round of 16 in the squash event at the ongoing 2024 National Sports Festival, following a thrilling 3–2 victory over Team Kwara’s Ismail Abubakar on Tuesday, Afrosport reports.

After dropping the first set, Obe rallied with grit and determination, feeding off the energy of the home crowd to outlast his opponent in a dramatic five-set battle.

He showcased tactical awareness and stamina, executing precise shots and maintaining composure under pressure. As the match stretched into the deciding fifth set, Obe dug deep to deliver the crucial points and seal victory.

“I knew I had to stay calm after the first set,” Obe said. “I’ve trained really hard for this, and I wasn’t ready to give up. The support from the crowd was incredible, and it really pushed me to fight harder.”

With this win, Obe joins the top 16 contenders vying for glory as the squash competition heats up.
