Ahead of the 22nd National Sports Festival (NSF), Ogun state has received thumbs-up from stakeholders for its readiness to host the games, Afrosport reports.
The stakeholders at a Joint Technical Meeting held in Abeokuta on Tuesday unanimously commended the Ogun State government under governor Dapo Abiodun for the swift refurbishment which has put the facilities in shape.
The meeting had technical directors and secretaries of sport federations across the country in attendance, and was chaired by the Director General of the National Sports Commission (NSC), and chairman of the Main Organising Committee (MOC), Hon. Bukola Olopade.
The NSC DG expressed confidence that Ogun state will host a befitting event, he applauded the Ogun state Governor for his giant strides in ensuring that the Gateway Games becomes a reference point in the history of sporting events in the country.
He said “Personally i am impressed with what the state government has done, these facilities are legacy projects and it is safe to say we are good to go.
“The most important endorsement was from the technical directors and other stakeholders from across the country who certified Ogun ready for the games, so we will continue as a commission to monitor events and see how we even improve with everything that has to do with the festival”.
President of the Paralympic Committe of Nigeria (PCN), Mr. Sunday Odebode expressed satisfaction and appreciated the NSC for giving people with disability the opportunity to stake a claim at the multi-sports event.
Former President of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN), Solomon Ogba, Commonwealth games Gold medalist Yusuf Alli, and the Executive Secretary of the Local Organizing Committee (LOC), Dr. Kweku Tandoh were also present at the event.
The 2024 Gateway Games is scheduled to get underway on 18th May and will run through 30th.
