NSF 2022: Delta’s Nworgu breaks Para-Powerlifting World Record

Esther Nworgu of Delta state made headlines at the 2022 National Sports Festival in Asaba on Saturday as she set a new World Record in the Women’s Para-Powerlifting 41kg category.

She lifted 115kg which breaks her precious record (114kg) at the 2022 African Para Powerlifting Championship in Cairo. Delta’s Bright Paul Kolade meanwhile defeated Iyama Udobong of Akwa Ibom to win gold in the men’s -74kg Taekwondo event.

Saturday remained a productive day for Edo State as they continued from where they left off on Friday. Blessing Aiwekho won silver in the Women’s Singles Para-Table Tennis Class 3. Beauty Osariemen then struck gold in Class 4 of the same event. In the women’s class 8&10 team event, the trio of Faith Obazuaye, Uniomwan Alimat Amenze and Osaro Benedict Abimbola won silver.

Edo continued to dominate in the Para-Table Tennis, winning bronze in the women’s class 4&5 team event, men’s team Class 1-3, and men’s singles Class 3. It didn’t end there with silver coming in the Class 10 men’s singles event. Edo ended the Para-Table Tennis medal sweep with a silver medal win in Women’s Class 8&10.

In Para-Powerlifting, Abimbola Osaro claimed silver for Edo in the men’s 54kg category while Nicholas Ojomon took bronze in the 80kg category.

In Darts, Onuyoh Onajite took silver in the 301 women’s singlea when Amin Aimuaemmonsa took bronze in the men’s event.

Away from Edo, Toyosi Osewa won silver for Oyo State in one of the women’s Para-Powerlifting. Yakub Adesokan then took gold in Para-Powerlifting 49kg.

Imo State also had a good day, Favour Okehie wining bronze in the Darts 701 women’s singles. The duo of Margaret Okoko and Akudo Okoroafor won gold in Class 1&3 Para-Table Tennis team event while Okoko won another gold in the singles event. Oluwabamidele Joseph Moses won gold in the Golf, stroke event

Amarachi Okonkwo bagged bronze in Para-Powerlifting, same for Thomas Osaghie in Para-Table Tennis singles Class 2, Tochukwu Nwokeukwu won bronze in Para-Swimming, the same medal for Uzoma Njoku in Dart 501 male singles.
