Remo Stars extended their lead at the top of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL), thanks to a 2-1 victory over Kano Pillars on Saturday in Ikenne in a match-day 23 clash, Afrosport reports.
Sikiru Alimi gave the Sky-Blue Stars the lead after just five minutes, directingt he ball into the net, following a timely and well-delivered cross from full-back, Seun Ogunribide.
Former Kano Pillars defender, Ibrahim Abubakar extended Remo Stars’ lead in the 40th minute when he directed home a low ball, after Pillars goalkeeper Abuchi Okeke had parried Alimi’s shot to his path.
Pillars halved the deficit just before half-time through Abba Adam who headed in Abdullahi Ali’s superb cross.
Sai Masu Gida tested goalkeeper Kayode Bankole in the second half, notably through veteran midfielder Rabiu Ali and goal scorer Aba Adam, but the Sky-Blue Stars held on for a famous victory.
Daniel Ogunmodede’s side are on top with 48 points, eight ahead of second placed Shooting Stars who have an outstanding game.
In Ibadan, Godwin Odibo netted on his debut for Shooting Stars as the Oluyole Warriors defeated Bendel Insurance 1-0.
Shooting are five points ahead of third and fourth-placed Rivers United and El-Kanemi Warriors respectively.

Elsewhere, Umar Al Amin scored in the 29th minute as El-Kanemi Warriors pipped Nasarawa United 1-0
