Remo Stars defeated El-Kanemi Warriors 2-0 on Sunday to return to the top of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) table, Afrosport reports.
The Skye-Blue stars missed the services of captain Nduka Junior, experienced striker Sikiru Alimi, midfielder Jide Fatokun and full-back Sodiq Ismail who are currently with the Super Eagles B team ahead of the forthcoming African Nations Championship (CHAN) qualifiers against Ghana coming up later this month.
In their absence, the Ogun State-based team still earned maximum points courtesy goals from Peter Onuoha and Franck Mawuena .
Victory takes them top on 29 points, same with second placed Rivers United, but Finidi George’s side have an inferior goal difference.
At the Nnamdi Azikiwe stadium, champions Enugu Rangers slowed down the pace of the Pride of Rivers by handing them a 1-0 defeat with Chinemerem Ugwueze’s 15th minute effort proving to be the difference.
At the Samson Siasia stadium in Yenegoa, Rabiu Abdullahi’s 79th minute goal condemned Ikorodu City to a 1-0 defeat, while Kano Pillars pipped Katsina United 1-0 through Abba Adam’s 34th minute header.
