Nkunku: Pochettino hopes for Chelsea forward’s return before end of season

Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino hopes that Christopher Nkunku will be able to play this season as he continues to recover from a hamstring injury.

The Franco-Congolese forward’s first season at Stamford Bridge was hampered by a knee injury he suffered during pre-season and kept him out for five months.

Nkunku returned to action in late December but has been out with a hamstring injury since mid-February.

“They assess him day by day and now in the last few days he has the possibility to be involved in some parts of the training session,” Pochettino said ahead of Chelsea’s FA Cup semi-final with Manchester City.

“We now need to see the reaction of his body and then how he is going to evolve. We hope he can involve him and he will be involved as soon as possible, or before the end of the season.”

Nkunku has played a total of 10 games in all competitions this term, scoring just two goals in Premier League defeats to Wolverhampton Wanderers and Liverpool.
