Nigeria Scrabble Federation names team for World Youth Championships

Senegal’s Niakhate hopeful for struggling Nottingham Forest

Twelve youngsters have been selected to represent Team Nigeria at the forthcoming 2024 World Youth Scrabble Championship billed for Sri Lanka.

The Nigeria Scrabble Federation (NSF) listed eight boys and four girls that will fly the country’s flag at the 19th edition of the Championship.

The team is captained by Joy Nwabuzor, a gold medal winner at the seventh National Youth Games held in Asaba, Delta State.

Other wordsmiths selected include Ese Ejenakevbe, Abdulqudus Aliu, Prestige Archibong, Sufyan Boluwatife, and Clinton Imode.

Nine-year-old Scrabble wizkid, Saviour Onazi, Hauwa Abdullahi, and medal hopefuls, Sophia Ekeruche and Michelle Ikekeregor complete the list.

Hosts, Sri Lanka, are the team to beat having recorded an unprecedented top three finish among 142 players from 17 nations at the 2023 edition they also hosted.
