Nigeria kickstarted their campaign at the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Africa Qualifier with a commanding 96-run win over Sierra Leone in their opening game on Sunday, Afrosport reports.
The Female Yellow Greens were put into an early batting action as Sierra Leone won the toss and elected to field first at the Namibia Cricket Ground in Windhoek.
Leke Oyede’s side raced to 182 runs for the loss of three wickets in 20 overs, setting an enormous marker for the Sierra Leoneans to chase in the second innings.
The Ladies Patriots, however, failed to deliver any challenge as Nigeria held them to 82 runs and took eight wickets in the same overs.
Player of the Match, Lucky Piety, led the Female Yellow Greens with 68 runs off 36 balls and had a strike rate of 188.9. Piety also took one wicket and conceded 12 runs while batting.
Salome Sunday also impressed for Nigeria with 47 runs off 33 balls, while Muhibat Amusa recorded 31 runs off 33 balls
Nigeria sit top of the Group A standings, ahead of Zimbabwe, who recorded a 32-run victory over hosts Namibia.
The Female Yellow Greens will be back in action on Monday when they face Namibia in their second group game, while Zimbabwe will take on Sierra Leone earlier on the same day.
