NFF mourn death of ex-Falconets coach Dan Evumena

NFF reviews club registration fees for 2023 FA Cup

The Nigeria Football Federation has mourned the death of the former head coach of Nigeria Women’s Under-20 team, Dan Evumena.

The demise of the former Delta Queens FC coach was announced on Tuesday evening after he was reported to be in a coma at the Federal Medical Center (FMC), Asaba, Delta State.

Evumena was said to have been hospitalised before Christmas last year with the sickness unconfirmed.

He was initially Super Falcons assistant coach before his promotion to the position of Head Coach for the U-20 women’s team.

As Falconets’ head coach, Evumena led the side to the quarter-finals of the 2008 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup hosted in Chile.

In a condolence statement released on the NFF’s website, General Secretary, Dr. Mohammed Sanusi, revealed their shock at the news of his death and commiserated with Evumena’s family and loved ones.

“The news of Dan Evumena’s death is too hard to take. I am still in shock. This is a young trainer who has done creditably well at Club and National levels, and still had so much in his tank with which to fertilize and nurture the growth of many more women footballers,” he said.

“The death of every human being diminishes us, especially the death of every young person. He had his life in front of him. Our prayer is that Almighty God will grant him eternal life and also grant those he has left behind, particularly his young family, the fortitude to bear the big loss.”
