Newcastle legend Shearer cautions against Isak sale

Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer has warned the club against a potential sale of forward Alexander Isak, Afrosport reports.

The Sweden international of Eritrean heritage has been closely monitored by several top teams in Europe ahead of the winter transfer market.

Isak has been very crucial for Newcastle this season, finding the back of the net five times in 12 appearances.

He scored 25 goals in all competitions last term and it attracted the eyes of some big teams this summer and some are ready to return for him.

Shearer has however been very critical of the rumoured links, telling Betfair: “There have been reports this week that Newcastle would be willing to take £115 million for Alexander Isaak in January. For me, it’s a no.

“Unless they have a like-for-like, world class replacement ready to come in then it would be crazy to sell him in January and I don’t think they will. It’s not a viable option.”

Newcastle are also looking to reinforce their defensive strength due to the injuries of defense trio Emil Krafth, Jamaal Lacelles and Sven Botman who are all out till next.

Several reports states that Newcastle rate Ivory Coast-born Marc Guehi and are eyeing a potential move for him. On Newcastle’s interest in Guehi, Shearer continued: “Clearly there’s cash available if they were bidding for Marc Guehi but I don’t know if that would’ve meant selling one of the big-hitters in the summer. I don’t like the PSR rules and I don’t think they’re fair or right but that’s the situation we’re in.”

Newcastle had gone on a three-game winning streak before losing to West Ham United at home on Monday night.

They will travel to Selhurst Park to face Crystal Palace on Saturday.
