New Manchester City signing, Tijjani Reijnders, says he ready to play anywhere in midfield after Rodri suffered a fresh injury setback, Afrosport reports.
Reijnders joined the Citizens from AC Milan for a reported £46.6 million this summer to add more depth in the middle of the park following Rodri’s lengthy injury spell that saw him miss the bulk of 2024-25 season.
The influential Spaniard has now picked up another injury in his recovery efforts and is not expected to be back until at least September.
Reijnders scored a brace in Saturday’s 3-0 pre-season win over Palermo, and has affirmed his readiness to step in and play Rodri’s role if need be.
“In the Club World Cup, I played three roles in the midfield and I want to be a midfielder who can play in all of those roles,” the Dutch international of Indonesian heritage said.
“I want to play where the manager wants me to play, I will play and I will do my best, of course.
“We’ve worked a lot on ball possession and what we can do against teams who are, for example, in a really low block.
“Also, the reaction of when we lose the ball how quickly can we get it back. In the Club World Cup we played some matches together and now in training we have got to know each other a little better.
“I can see, of course, that he has a lot of qualities and that makes it easier for the rest of us midfielders to play alongside him.”

Man City will begin the 2025-26 season away at Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Premier League on Saturday, and will be hoping to improve on last season’s form that saw them finish 13 points behind champions Liverpool, and almost miss out on Champions League qualification.
