NBA: Mobley, Green headline 2024-25 All-Defensive First Team

Cleveland Cavaliers forward Evan Mobley and Golden State Warriors forward Draymond have been named to the 2024-25 NBA All-Defensive First Team, the league announced on Thursday.

Mobley and Green were joined on the list by Atlanta Hawks guard Dyson Daniels, Oklahoma City Thunder guard Luguentz Dort, and Houston Rockets forward Amen Thompson.

Mobley, the reigning Defensive Player of the Year (DPOY), gets his second First Team selection after the 2022-23 season. He averaged 1.6 blocks per game for the East-leading Cavaliers, receiving 99 first-place votes from a global panel of 100 voters, who selected five players for both NBA All-Defensive Teams.

Green, meanwhile, earned his fifth First Team selection and ninth All-Defensive Team honour in his 13-year NBA career. He averaged 1.5 steals and 1.0 blocks per game for the Warriors this season and had 81 first-place votes.

The 2017 Defensive Player of the Year is now tied for the seventh most All-Defensive Team selections in NBA history alongside Hall of Famers Dennis Johnson, Michael Jordan, Jason Kidd, Hakeem Olajuwon, Gary Payton, and Chris Paul.

The trio of Daniels, Dort, and Thompson, however, got their first NBA All-Defensive Team (First or Second Team) nod after spectacular individual seasons.

Daniels averaged 3.0 steals per game and led the league in total steals (229) this season—the most by any NBA player since Payton (231) in 1996. Dort, one of the league’s best perimeter defenders, averaged 1.1 steals per game for the Thunder, while Thompson averaged 1.4 steals and 1.3 blocks for the Rockets.

The NBA All-Defensive Second Team comprises Portland Trail Blazers forward Toumani Camara, Memphis Grizzlies forward Jaren Jackson Jr., Thunder forward Jalen Williams, Los Angeles Clippers center Ivica Zubac, and four-time DPOY and Minnesota Timberwolves center Rudy Gobert.

Camara, Williams, and Zubac are first-time members of the All-Defensive Team; Jackson gets his third selection, while this is Gobert’s eighth career All-Defensive Team selection.
