NBA: Bucks star Giannis drops cryptic message amid contract extension reports

Two-time NBA MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo has indicated that he has agreed to a contract extension with the Milwaukee Bucks, the franchise that drafted him in 2013.

The 28-year-old sent out a cryptic message on his official social media page, shouting out the city of Milwaukee along with the words “Let’s get it” and the hashtags #BucksInSix and #Extended.

Giannis’ post follows the report that the Greek-Nigerian superstar had agreed to a new three-year extension worth around $186 million, with a player option for the 2027–28 season.

With his initial contract running through 2024–25 with a player option for 2025–26, the reported agreement totally changes his initial stance of waiting till next summer before making a decision, as it would “make more financial sense for him” and put to rest any talks of uncertainty surrounding his future.

Although the Bucks organization hasn’t made an official announcement yet, they reposted Antetokounmpo’s post on X (formerly known as Twitter) with a message that read, “The best possible cure for the Mondays.”

The extension, which starts in the 2025–26 season, means the “Greek Freak” is under contract for at least four more years—and a fifth if he chooses to. He will earn about $94.4 million over the next two seasons, then about $120 million more for the 2025–26 and 2026–27 seasons.

The last year is at his option, meaning he could make roughly $66 million more in 2027–28.

Antetokounmpo’s reported new contract sees him tie his loyalty to the Bucks franchise, whom he challenged back in the summer to show their intention of winning another title, and they responded with a blockbuster trade that saw them bring Damian Lillard to the Eastern Conference team in a three-team deal.
