Viktor Gyokeres in action for Sweden against Azerbaijan in the Nations League

Germany were held to a 1-1 stalemate by Hungary, while Viktor Gyokeres scored four goals to lead Sweden to a 6-0 win against Azerbaijan in the final round of matches in the UEFA Nations League group stage on Tuesday night, Afrosport reports.

The Germans had most of the possession in the first half at the Puskas Arena Park but barely created any chances as both sides failed to break the deadlock in the opening period. The visitors, however, got in front in the 76th minute through Borussia Dortmund midfielder Felix Nmecha.

Hungary’s late surge paid off as they drew level through a penalty by team captain and Liverpool midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai in the ninth minute of stoppage time after German defender Robin Koch handled the ball in the area.

Elsewhere, Gyokeres cannot stop scoring, as the 26-year-old Sporting forward bagged four goals to help Sweden rout Azerbaijan and finish as the group stage’s top scorer with nine goals, passing Erling Haaland, who scored seven times.

Dejan Kulusevki also got on the scoresheet for the Swedes as the Tottenham Hotspur midfielder bagged a brace with goals in the 10th and the 57th minutes.

In the other results, the Netherlands and Bosnia & Herzegovina played a 1-1 draw as Ermedin Demirovic’s strike cancelled out a 2nd-minute effort from Brian Bobby for the Dutch.

Ukraine edged Albania 2-1; Georgia lost 2-1 to the Czech Republic; a Nikola Krstovic hat-trick helped Montenegro to a 3-1 win against Turkey, ending their five-match losing streak in the competition. Wales put four past Iceland in a 4-1 comeback win at the Cardiff City Stadium; Slovakia pipped Estonia 1-0; while 10-man Malta held Andorra to a goalless draw.

Eight teams have been confirmed for the knockout phase of the Nations League following the conclusion of the group stages.

France, Germany, Portugal, Spain, Croatia, Denmark, Italy, and the Netherlands will all compete in the quarterfinals, with one set to be crowned champion of the fourth edition of the tournament.
