Nations League: Belgium defeats Israel as France lose to Italy

Belgium defeated Israel 3-1 in their UEFA Nations League, League A Group 2 game at the Nagyerdei Stadion in Hungary on Friday, Afrosport reports.

Kevin De Bruyne opened the scoring for the Red Devils on 21 minutes before his teammate Timothy Castagne scored an own goal nine minutes before half time.

Youri Tielemans added a goal for Belgium in the 48th minute before De Bruyne completed his brace with a penalty in the 52nd minute.

Despite Ikoma Lois Openda’s penalty miss for Belgium, Domenico Tedesco’s side extended their streak against Israel to seven wins in eight meetings.

In other group games, Italy pulled off a first victory in Paris in 70 years after they defeated France 3-1.

French forward Bradley Barcola had opened the scoring at the Parc des Princes before goals from Federico Dimarco, Davide Frattesi and Giacomo Raspadori earned the Luciano Spalletti’s side the three points.

Italy, who are set to face Israel next on Monday in Budapest, now tops the League A Group 2 standings with Belgium taking on France in Lyon.

Meanwhile, in League B Group 3, Norway’s star-studded attacking line-up, led by Erling Haaland, were held to a goalless draw by Kazakhstan in Ortalyq Stadion in Almaty.

In the other group game, Slovenia and Austria drew 1-1 at the Stozice Stadium. Benjamin Sesko converted a penalty for the home team before Konrad Laimer pulled one back for the visitors in the 28th minute.

Elsewhere, Wales played a goalless draw with Turkey in their League B opener, a game that saw Baris Alper Yilmaz dismissed for a second booking after 62 minutes at the Cardiff City Stadium.


Goals from Orri Oskarson and Jon Dagur Thorsteinsson in the 39th and 58th minute respectively, spured Iceland to a 2-0 victory over Montenegro at the Laugardalsvllur in League B.

In League C, Romania edged out 10-man Kosovo with 3-0 while Cyprus defeated Lithuania 1-0.
