Reigning world MotoGP champion Jorge Martin will be missing from action for an extended period after undergoing surgery for fractures to his left hand, his Aprilia team announced on Tuesday.
Martin, who was recovering from previous injuries, sustained fractures to his hand and foot during a training session in Spain on Monday, which ruled him out of this weekend’s season-opener in Thailand.
Earlier this month, the 27-year-old fractured his right hand and left foot after crashing during pre-season testing in Malaysia.
“Jorge Martin’s surgery was successfully completed,” Aprilia said in a statement Tuesday.
“The recovery time will be assessed in the coming days.”

He joined the Aprilia team on an initial two-year deal after winning the 2024 championship for Pramac Ducati.
The Spaniard will be replaced by Italy’s Lorenzo Savadori at the Buriram circuit in Thailand, with the second race of the season on 16 March in Argentina.
