Morocco’s Regragui confident of victory against France

Morocco head coachWalid Regragui is confident about his team’s chances of making it to the 2022 FIFA World Cup final as they prepare to take on defending champions France in the semi-final on Wednesday.

The Atlas Lions broke Africa’s quarter-final jinx by beating Portugal last Saturday and having gotten results against the likes of Croatia, Belgium and Spain, there is strong belief Africa could have a finalist at the Lusail Stadium on Sunday.

Morocco have had to play more than 120 minutes of football in each of their games in the knockout phase but Regragui asserts his team is not tired.

He said: “It’s getting more complicated as it goes on. We are going to play against the champions, with great players and the best coach in the world.

“We believe we can go through and, why not win the World Cup. We are not tired, I want to make it clear, we are going to run.”

The Moroccan team has the support African and Arab world firmly behind their backs and Regragui says the mentality of the team has to change.

“I have told them that we have come to change the mentality of our continent. We didn’t get here by chance but I told them that we can’t be complacent. We’re confident and we’ve had the most difficult journey,” the former Wydad Casablanca boss continued.

“We have been eliminated many times and we are still here. We are going to fight to move forward, for the African countries, for the Arab world. Our country respects all cultures, we are welcoming and sometimes we don’t ask for anything in return.”

Before Wednesday’s encounter, Croatia and Argentina will square off at Lusail Stadium on Tuesday evening.
